Tough week for me! Although I generally don't do well on American Lit in quizbowl, I did manage 15 on this round so I suppose some things have stuck (Erdrich and Oleanna probably my best gets because I wasn't getting them from qb like most of the others). I should probably read more American literature.
I would also like to point out that glissando and portamento are used more or less interchangeably although portamento is only really used for strings and voices - I've never seen specifically a portamento marking for any other instruments.
Team Spicer:
R1 - 20 (we're very good at getting 100% on easy questions, less good at everything else)
R2 - 11
R3 - 3 (Hester Prynne, Goon Squad, and a lucky guess on Beloved. Very tough round)
R4 - 14
R5 - 1 (New Jeans/NJZ)
Total - 49
I can sum up my performance and feelings in four words: Hide The Pain Harold. (Which I didn't even get.)
R1: 19 (Missed Dean Martin. Got lucky with guessing the right Monty Python member - it is extremely Not My Thing)
R2: 6
R3: 3
R4: 8
R5: 4 (Hide The Pain Harold, Kilwa, Populous, Alcacer Quibir)
Didn't do great on it but I liked the pop music questions, lots of interesting links there and refreshingly light on any charts focus.
